Tim Grafton

Tim became Chief Executive of the Insurance Council of New Zealand in 2012 and has led the council management of some of the most challenging issues to face the general insurance sector. These include the largest and second largest natural catastrophe losses for New Zealand, the Canterbury earthquake series and the Kaikoura earthquake, leadership of the sector’s position on the need for adaptation to climate change risks as well as across major regulatory and legislative issues, including substantial revision of the Fair Insurance Code. He initiated a public good financial capability programme for the sector and brought New Zealand into the fold of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations. He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and serves in a governance capacity on several advisory forums. In 2015, the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance awarded him Insurance Leader of the Year.
