Insurers are closely monitoring the development of Tropical Cyclone Zelia in Western Australia. In a  media release, Allianz said its priority is the safety and well-being of customers, employees, and the local communities. The insurer announced the activation of a comprehensive response plan.

“Our team has triggered our response plans, activated resources across the business to build out our response capability across areas such as claims lodgement, emergency makesafe, assessing, claims management and customer communication,” said Scott Cooper, the firm’s national manager disaster and recovery. “We have planned for and responded to events of this nature before and will be with the community as recovery from this event unfolds”

The company published communications on social media to provide guidance on preparing for the storm. The insurer’s response plan included:

  • Surge response plan: Additional resources have been allocated to assist customers with claims, available 24/7 via phone (13 10 13) and online.
  • Local tradespeople and builders secured: Allianz said it is working with local builders and tradespeople to ensure rapid repairs and rebuilding efforts.
  • Coordination with partners: Allianz engaged with partners to ensure a coordinated response and efficient assistance for impacted individuals.
  • On-the-ground intelligence gathering: Teams in Port Hedland were monitoring conditions on Friday to assess the cyclone’s potential impact to inform the company’s response.
  • Disaster and recovery team deployment: Teams have been mobilised to affected areas as soon as conditions allowed.

Allianz encouraged customers to visit its cyclone support page for preparation tips and post-storm guidance and to stay informed through local authorities’ safety advisories. For customers needing to make claims, Allianz noted it provides 24/7 support through its hotline (13 10 13) and online portal.
