Arch Insurance Australia has appointed Shawn Jarman (pictured) as senior casualty underwriter to strengthen its Southern Region casualty portfolio, while Bupa has named a new APAC chief financial officer and a new managing director for New Zealand, both effective January 1, 2027.
Jarman joins Arch on October 22, based in Melbourne, where he will focus on new and renewal public and products liability business within the Southern Region. He reports to Carmen Tung, Southern Region casualty underwriting manager.
He comes from the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority, where he most recently worked as a risk adviser. His 30-year career in the Australian market has included underwriting and account management roles at Epsilon Underwriting, Allianz, and Vero Insurance.
“He brings extensive casualty underwriting and risk advisory experience, together with strong technical capabilities and a relationship-focused approach,” Tung said. “His broad expertise will be a valuable addition to our casualty team as we continue to expand our portfolio and increase support for our broker partners.”
For brokers placing public and products liability risks in Victoria and South Australia, the appointment adds an experienced senior underwriter to Arch’s Southern Region team. Arch Insurance Australia operates across accident and health, casualty, financial lines, and property as part of Arch Insurance International, with operations spanning Australia, the UK, Lloyd’s, Europe, and Bermuda.
Angelo Loizou has been named APAC chief financial officer, relocating from Hong Kong to Melbourne to join the APAC executive leadership team. He has spent 10 years with Bupa, with roles across its finance functions in Australia and Hong Kong, and was involved in improving Bupa Hong Kong’s customer and financial performance.
Josh Byers has been appointed managing director of Bupa New Zealand, succeeding Pedro Sánchez, who retires at the end of 2026 after 20 years with the company, including three years leading the New Zealand business. Byers has been involved in Bupa New Zealand’s transformation programme, including the introduction of technology across its aged care operations and the launch of Blua. Damien Johnston, who served as interim APAC CFO, will leave Bupa on November 18.
