Canopius Group (Canopius) has continued its expansion in the APAC region by making two appointments in Australia.

The group has appointed Lucy Lumb (pictured left) as underwriter for property coverholder and delegated authority and Trisha Urquhart (pictured right) as underwriter for accident & health.

Originally from New Zealand, Lumb has over 19 years of industry experience across several senior underwriting roles, specialising in commercial underwriting. She joined Canopius from DUAL New Zealand, where she was a senior property underwriter. Her previous roles include senior commercial underwriter at ANDO Insurance in New Zealand and senior commercial property underwriter at Pen Underwriting in Australia.

Urquhart has more than 24 years of industry experience, having worked across many areas of claims, underwriting, insurance broking, and risk management. She joined Canopius from East West Insurance Brokers, where she was a claims & compliance manager. Her previous roles include senior underwriter, liability & accident and sickness, at Ryno Underwriting, where she was also a claims manager for East West Insurance Brokers and Ryno Insurance.

Joining Canopius

Lumb and Urquhart are expected to boost Canopius’s underwriting capabilities in Australia.

Lumb will report to Jeanene Hill, head of coverholder & delegated authority at Canopius.

Commenting on the appointment, Hill said: “Australia is a key strategic hub for Canopius, and we are committed to hiring the best talent so we can provide the best possible outcomes and expand our presence in the market. Our work is made possible by the quality of our talented underwriters, so I am delighted to welcome both Lucy and Trisha to the team.”

Meanwhile, Urquhart will report to Suzanne White, who leads the accident & health team in APAC.

White commented: “Both Lucy and Trisha bring a wealth of experience to their role. Given their deep industry knowledge, coupled with their demonstrated track record of underwriting, I have no doubt they will make invaluable contributions to our fast-growing team. I look forward to working with them as we look to further our market position in Australia.”

The Australian appointments follow Canopius’s expansion of its cyber team by appointing a senior cyber threat intelligence analyst.
