Strata insurer CHU has announced the launch of CHUAssess – an agile, internal-loss assessment team, owning on-site assessment and settlement – to help clients quickly recover after disaster strikes.

After a five-month trial, the new business unit is being rolled out in NSW this month, and will soon be launched in other eastern states. It will provide on-site approval of works to panel builders, speeding up the start of repairs and improving the speed of settlement.

“The need for speed is vital for strata owners and their tenants when disaster strikes. Not only is it important for those living in the property but also for strata owners who rely on their property as an investment,” said Andy Martindale, CHU’s head of claims. “The decision is made on the spot by a CHU assessor, so that the claim is handled by the assessor not claims consultant, removing another layer in the process.”

Martindale said that in addition to CHUAssess, the strata insurer has also been working for some time on other ways to provide clients with speedy claims service.

“A fast-track claims service was achieved last year by the introduction of CHU’s Strata Service Centre (SSC), which is able to triage claims when they are lodged. Simple claims can be processed immediately,” he said.

Martindale said CHU’s aim was to lodge and process 95% of simple claims within the first two hours – a target CHU had consistently outperformed. Likewise, the insurer has outperformed its 95% target of finalising a simple claim in one day.
