Australians across the country recently showed their appreciation for the country's more than 40,000 SES volunteers by wearing orange as part of the “Wear Orange Wednesday” Day, or WOW Day.

Not missing the chance to also show its gratitude to the orange-uniformed SES volunteers was NRMA Insurance.

Cowra's NRMA Insurance branch celebrated the May 23 event with Cowra SES volunteers by wearing orange and holding a special morning tea with a gold coin donation, Cowra Guardian reported.

In NSW, SES volunteers spend around 400,000 hours to assist communities in times of storms, floods, and other emergencies, and according to Karl Milic, Cowra SES local controller, WOW Day is an opportune time to show these local volunteers support.

“This is a day when the dedicated work our volunteers do for the community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is acknowledged in a very public way,” Milic told the publication. “Seeing people wearing orange and decorating their workplaces and communities is a great way to let our volunteers know they are appreciated for all the times they have been there for the community.”

Jen Cobley, NRMA Insurance partnerships and programs manager, said the SES volunteers' support are invaluable in times of emergencies and natural disasters.

“We are proud to partner with the NSW SES to support volunteers and empower local communities to build resilience and protect themselves from severe weather,” Cobley told Cowra Guardian.

Last year NSW SES volunteers responded to over 32,000 requests for assistance, the report said.
