The Council of Queensland Insurance Brokers Inc. (CQIB) hosted its traditional Queensland Day celebration on June 03, 2021, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre's Sky Room.

The event, attended by COVID-19 restricted number of 260 CQIB members and business partners, featured CQIB’s Annual Awards, which continue to be highly coveted since their inception in 1996.

CQIB presented six awards, comprising two personal and four company awards. The major awards included the Peter McCarthy Young Professional of the Year and the CQIB All-rounder Award.

Kirsty Dowell of Stellar Insurance Brokers took home the Peter McCarthy CQIB Young Professional Award. She will receive a perpetual and personal trophy and $1,000 full delegate registration at the upcoming CQIB Convention.

Sponsored by Vero, the award was presented to a young professional with outstanding commitment and service in their brokerage, clients, and insurance industry over the past 12 months.

Peter Roberts, the Queensland state manager at Vero, thanked this year's nominations and noted “the high standard of young professionals within the CQIB fraternity. He said: “Vero is a proud 15-year supporter of this award that recognises the best young brokers.”

CGU Insurance won the CQIB All-Rounder Award, accepted by Broker Solutions Queensland state manager Tiana Iuvale on behalf of the CGU Insurance team. The award is based on the performance of insurers over the past 12 months with performance levels of security, product range, service levels, claims administration, accounts, communication, price, and senior management availability.

Meanwhile, QBE Insurance received the CQIB All-Rounder “Runner Up” Award, accepted by product lead commercial motor Greg Lewis on behalf of QBE.

Luke Wennerbom of Vero Insurance took home the Mick Lambert Barker Award, presented to the CQIB business partner's staff member for “service above and beyond.” As the winner, Wennerbom received a trophy from the champions of the award, Piranha Insurance Brokers Rockhampton. CQIB will also give him $500 to recognise his outstanding service to CQIB members.

The other winners were:

  • Allianz Australia Insurance for claims service, with the award accepted by Queensland distribution manager Dan Woolnough on behalf of the company.
  • Allianz Australia Insurance for domestic insurer, accepted by Woolnough on behalf of the company; and
  • UAA for underwriting agency, accepted by regional manager north Jane King.

CQIB president Andrew Hinz said: “On behalf of CQIB, we'd like to congratulate our winners and all of the nominees for all their efforts in this past year.”
