Community members and policyholders affected by the recent floods in Queensland and New South Wales are invited to join insurance industry professionals in an online townhall event on Thursday, May 12.

The event will be hosted by the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and will provide up-to-date information on the claims process, complaints avenues, and other useful details to assist policyholders regarding the recent floods. There will be presentations from the Australian Financial Complaints Association and Legal Aid, as well as a virtual Q&A where questions can be addressed to the industry professionals in attendance.

“These online events are important for communities and individual policyholders for understanding the ins and outs of the claims process,” said Andrew Hall, chief executive officer of ICA. “We understand that there are sometimes delays and the industry is working through the current challenges. We hope this online event will provide policyholders with a clear picture as to the processes in place to support those affected as soon as possible.”

Bookings for the event can be made at insurancecouncil.com.au/onlinetownhall.

The ICA also has plans to hold in-person community forums in northern New South Wales, details of which will be announced next week.

A recent report from the ICA estimated that the floods in southeast Queensland and northern New South cost around $3.35 billion, making it Australia’s costliest flood to date.
