IT company Interactive has launched a new managed cyber security offering using Microsoft Azure Sentinel as the frequency and severity of cyberattacks continues to soar.

Interactive claims that the new offering is a more cost-effective way for businesses to manage their cyber security. It provides 24/7 support and reduces time from finding the cyber threat to solving the threat.

Many companies went digital when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, making them more vulnerable to cyberattacks. Some businesses think the threat has diminished now that the pandemic is more under control – but Interactive begs to differ.

“Since the move to a more remote way of working, data breaches and cyberattacks on businesses' cloud services are more prevalent,” said Scott McKean, the chief security officer at Interactive.

According to the government's latest Notifiable Data Breaches report, data breaches resulting from error accounted for 38% of notifications, up 18%, suggesting that cyber criminals are taking advantage of the lack of face-to-face communication during and after the pandemic by sending malicious emails from a company address.

Interactive stated that Microsoft Solutions tracks eight trillion cyber threats a day. Meanwhile, Australian Cyber Security Centre has warned of a “significant increase” in attacks on businesses since March 2020, costing Australian businesses approximately $29 billion. A recent report from Gartner also advised businesses to partner for cyber security rather than managing all the trillions of daily cyber threats themselves.

“We know that cyber security is no longer an issue just for the IT department. In an organisation, company directors are liable if their business is affected by a data breach or cyberattack, so these conversations are happening at the board level of an organisation. However, cyber threats are now so pervasive and complex that often senior management doesn't know the right questions to ask to stay ahead of the threat,” McKean said.

“We believe the solution is a third-party managed system that provides round the clock support without spending the whole IT budget.”
