SCOR’s EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) regional head for catastrophe management is leaving the French reinsurer to join the world’s specialist insurance market.

Lloyd’s has appointed Zurich-based Dr Kirsten Mitchell-Wallace as head of risk aggregation. She is moving to Lloyd’s before the end of 2017, with David Clouston continuing as interim head of risk aggregation until then.

Mitchell-Wallace, who has been with SCOR in Zurich since 2009, will be responsible for leading the strategy and day-to-day activities of the exposure management, reinsurance, and catastrophe modelling teams at Lloyd’s. Prior to SCOR, she worked in London for Willis, RMS, and Risk Solutions.

“I’m very excited to be joining Lloyd’s and applying my practical experience in a new, and changing, environment,” commented Mitchell-Wallace, who co-authored “Natural Catastrophe Risk Management and Modelling – A Practitioner’s Guide”.

She added: “These are fascinating and vital areas of work for the insurance and reinsurance sector, and I am looking forward to working closely with the market and contributing fully to its future success.”

Jon Hancock, director of performance management at Lloyd’s, noted that the incoming head of risk aggregation replacing Clouston – who will be establishing his own business – is a great addition to the senior leadership team.

“I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of her calibre and deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities the team will be facing on a daily basis,” said Hancock.

He added: “I am also extremely grateful to David for his outstanding contribution in the interim role during 2017, including management of Lloyd’s catastrophe risk under very challenging market circumstances and markedly progressing our understanding of cyber risk.”
