The Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia (RAC) has launched a leadership program to improve the future of transport.

The new RAC Ignite Leadership Program will bring together 30 innovative young people across Western Australia (WA) for an immersive, month-long leadership program that includes four masterclasses and a leadership camp. The program will also see the participants pitch their best innovative idea.

“We're asking young people to imagine a safer, more sustainable, and better-connected future – and we're giving them the tools and networks to help make those ideas a reality, said RAC acting group executive social and community impact Will Golsby. “We want the participants to come up with new ideas that could help solve real-world problems, like reducing road trauma, making our city better connected, or reducing our vehicle emissions.”

RAC will run the leadership program with five young leaders from local non-profit Millenium Kids. The workshops will teach the participants about sustainable cities from across the globe and how to hone their networking and pitching.

Major challenge

The program will see the participants face a major challenge of “designing a vision for Perth in 2050.” The winner will receive a $6,000 prize and ongoing mentoring and support from RAC and Millenium Kids to bring their idea into life.

“We want to make sure young voices are being heard and most importantly, that young people are empowered to make their ideas a reality, to create a better WA,” Golsby said.

The RAC Ignite Leadership Program is open to all Western Australians aged 18 to 24. Applications close on September 11 (Monday).
