Queensland community groups only have two weeks left to apply for natural disaster grants, insurer RACQ has announced.

Funding of up to $50,000, or up to $200,000 in exceptional circumstances, is up for grabs to help local communities recover after a natural disaster, said Renee Smith, RACQ Foundation spokesperson.

“As resilient as Queenslanders are, after a natural disaster locals often need a helping hand – that’s why the RACQ Foundation was established,” Smith said. “With more than half of Queensland currently drought-declared, we also know how hard the dry has hit communities across the state. This funding could be the shot in the arm your town needs. RACQ Foundation funding can be used to get local groups back up and running at full capacity, providing a much-needed community morale boost.”

Last year, grants were awarded to 20 groups, including BMX clubs, kindergartens, surf lifesaving clubs, and agricultural associations across Queensland.

“If you know of a community group impacted by natural disaster which needs a helping hand, urge them to apply before applications close on June 15,” Smith said.

Since 2011, RACQ Foundation had distributed more than $7.6m to 182 drought-, flood-, and cyclone-impacted community organisations.
