VMIA names new CEO

The Victoria Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) has appointed a new CEO to lead VMIA in its role as Victoria’s risk manager and insurer through to 2020.

The Victoria Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) has appointed Comcare CEO Paul O’Connor to CEO to lead VMIA in its role as Victoria’s risk manager and insurer through to 2020.

O’Connor will be VMIA’s new CEO from 1 September 2014. O’Connor has extensive business and people leadership experience in risk management, insurance and business regulation, both in Australia and overseas.

O’Connor will join VMIA at the end of his five‐year term as CEO and sole director of Comcare, a federal workplace regulator and insurer. O’Connor is also the deputy chairperson of the Seacare Authority for Australia’s offshore maritime industry.

O’Connor served as a member of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission that oversees the services and support for Australian veterans and their families. O’Connor was previously CEO of Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission and has been deeply involved with disability reforms in Australia.

VMIA Chairman, John Peberdy welcomed the outcome of its search process. He said:  “Paul has been asked to bring fresh thinking and innovation to VMIA’s work and service delivery to the Victorian community. We’re extremely pleased to appoint a person of Paul’s calibre. We’re excited by the focus, energy, insight and experience Paul will bring to VMIA’s risk and insurance solutions.”
