A video of a woman has made rounds on the internet as she ran towards a braking car before throwing herself on the bonnet after the car stopped, seemingly trying to pull off an injury scam.

The dashcam footage showed the woman running down the middle of the street in western Sydney and screaming as she approached the moving car. The car slowed down to avoid hitting her, but she still threw herself on the car bonnet repeatedly. Now, social media users are accusing the woman of trying to pull off an insurance scam

“The lady came and hit the car. You should file a hit and run case on your car’s behalf,” a social media user said, as reported by Daily Mail.

Another social media user added: “Faking an injury scam in a country with free healthcare. Good luck.”

According to Daily Mail, insurance scams amount to around $2 billion a year in Australia. As a result, many motorists have installed dashcams to protect themselves from fault as it can help authorities to find out who was to blame for a collision.

Cameras have also become necessary for Russian drivers amid claims of insurance fraud and police corruption. Meanwhile, staged accidents as a common type of insurance fraud remain rampant in the US.

“Fraud is simply another form of ‘theft’ which involves some type of trick or deception to gain a financial advantage,” said the Insurance Fraud Bureau Australia on its website.
