Emergence Insurance has moved to strengthen its grip on the Australian cyber insurance market, acquiring the renewal rights to Blue Zebra’s cyber insurance portfolio in a deal that will see all renewing policyholders transition to the specialist underwriter from July 1 2026.

The acquisition represents a significant moment in the ongoing maturation of Australia’s cyber insurance market — one of the country’s most recognised dedicated cyber underwriters absorbing a book built by a digital-first underwriting agency known for its tech-driven, multi-insurer model across personal, commercial and farm lines.

For brokers, the implications are immediate. As cyber renewals come in, All Blue Zebra cyber policies renewing from July 1 will be issued replacement terms under the Emergence banner. Upon renewal, policyholders will gain access to Emergence’s award-winning cover, including its Smarter Cyber Services and Smarter Incident Response capabilities — a meaningful step up in the depth of support available, particularly around end-to-end incident management.

The deal also brings an expanded risk appetite and more flexible coverage options, backed by what Emergence describes as a larger, dedicated cyber team. For brokers navigating increasingly complex client exposures in a hardening cyber environment, that combination of breadth and specialist depth will be closely watched.

A deal built on capability, not just capacity

“We’re pleased to welcome their cyber policyholders to Emergence and continue supporting them with specialist cyber protection and practical end-to-end support before, during and after a cyber incident,” said Emergence CEO Troy Filipcevic (pictured).

The acquisition goes beyond a straightforward book transfer. Alongside the renewal rights, Blue Zebra’s head of cyber, Aaron Langmaid, will join Emergence in July, bringing with him deep technical expertise and established broker relationships built within the Blue Zebra portfolio. For brokers managing long-term cyber programmes, that continuity of personnel within a well-resourced specialist underwriter is a meaningful signal.

Langmaid’s move also underscores Emergence’s growth ambitions. The company has long positioned itself as a full-cycle cyber risk partner — combining underwriting with pre-breach support and post-incident claims capability — and adding an experienced cyber specialist to its ranks further reinforces that model at a time when cyber claims frequency continues to test the market.

The transaction also reflects broader consolidation trends reshaping the Australian cyber landscape. As the market matures and the complexity of cyber risk grows, specialist books are increasingly gravitating toward dedicated underwriters with the scale and sophistication to manage them effectively.

What brokers placing Blue Zebra cyber need to know

Blue Zebra CEO Rowan Watson was unambiguous in his endorsement of the transition. “This acquisition gives our policyholders access to broader cover options, additional support services and deep cyber expertise,” Watson said.

Watson also noted the deal would free Blue Zebra to focus on its core agency offering and service its significant broker client base at greater scale — framing the divestment of the cyber book as a strategic sharpen rather than an exit. Both parties have flagged potential future collaboration across a range of planned cyber initiatives, suggesting the relationship between the two organisations is far from over.

For brokers with renewing Blue Zebra cyber clients, the timeline is tight. Emergence documentation will begin flowing in June, ahead of the July 1 transition date. Brokers are advised to brief clients early, review replacement policy terms carefully — particularly around coverage conditions and risk appetite — and take advantage of the opportunity to introduce clients to Emergence’s broader service offering.

Emergence Insurance was founded in 2015 and has built a consistent track record of industry recognition for its business cyber insurance and in-house incident response and claims capability. With this acquisition, it adds another layer of scale to an already well-regarded specialist platform.
