Gallagher Bassett's Jon Winsbury on the importance of brokers during natural catastrophes

Catastrophe & Flood

As flood-affected Australians in Queensland and New South Wales (NSW) recover from the recent catastrophic flooding and wait anxiously for more extreme weather forecasted by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), Jon Winsbury, the EVP of Gallagher Bassett's international division, has spoken to Insurance Business Australia (IB) about the importance of brokers during natural catastrophes.

In an IB Talk podcast hosted by news editor Danny Wood, Winsbury (pictured) shared how he led GB's response to natural catastrophes for more than 10 years and had witnessed how brokers helped people and communities during and after an extreme weather event.

In one case, an Australian living on the top floor of an apartment was left stranded in her unit's bathroom without a roof for four days until she was rescued amid an extreme weather event.

“We got her out of there and got her relocated in a hotel … she was happy to stay there,” Winsbury told Wood on the podcast, which you can listen to here.
