The Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Travel Insurance 2025 have announced the best-performing providers in Australia, showcasing policies that offer strong value and quality for travellers.

Mozo, a financial comparison site, reviewed 166 travel insurance policies across 51 providers to determine winners in categories like Comprehensive, Essential, and Multi-Trip coverage.

Leading travel insurance providers 

Travel Insurance Saver emerged as the “Best Travel Insurer” for 2025, standing out for its performance across multiple categories. The provider earned Exceptional Value awards for Comprehensive, Annual Multi-Trip, and Cruise insurance policies and ranked highly in the Exceptional Quality category.

Butter Insurance, a recent entrant to the market, was named “Highly Commended Travel Insurer.” Its Essential Travel Insurance policy won an Exceptional Value award, while its overall product design scored well for flexibility and quality.

Award categories and key winners 

Winners were chosen across several categories, reflecting diverse traveller needs:

• Essential Travel Insurance: Butter Insurance, battleface, and Travel Insuranz were among the top performers.
• Comprehensive Travel Insurance: Providers like Fast Cover and Travel Insurance Saver were recognised for their offerings.
• Annual Multi-Trip Insurance: Bendigo Bank, Qantas, and Medibank were highlighted.
• Medical-Only Travel Insurance: Australia Post and Southern Cross Travel Insurance featured prominently.
• Cruise Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance Saver and World2Cover received awards.
• Ski Travel Insurance: Tick Travel Insurance and Insure&Go were identified as top choices.

Commenting on the 2025 list of winners, AJ Duncanson (pictured), data director and Mozo Experts Choice Awards judge, said: “These awards were established to make it easier for Australians to find the best travel insurance policy, whether they prioritise quality of cover or cost of policy, without having to compare dozens of quotes.”

How winners were determined 

Mozo evaluated policies using two primary metrics:

• Value: Policies were assessed based on affordability for key benefits such as unlimited medical cover and specific minimums for luggage and cancellation. For instance, Essential Travel Insurance required unlimited medical cover, $2,000 for luggage, and $2,500 for cancellation.
• Quality: This considered the comprehensiveness of coverage, prioritising benefits such as emergency medical, cancellation protections, and COVID-related coverage.

Quotes were based on a 40-year-old traveller, with price and coverage comparisons conducted for destinations including the USA, UK, and Japan.

Methodology and independence 

The awards are designed to provide consumers with unbiased recommendations. Mozo does not charge providers for entry into the awards, and winners are determined solely through analysis of publicly available data. This ensures that the awards reflect merit rather than commercial relationships.
