Kirsty Dowell

Kirsty graduated high school in 2002 and attended the Gatton campus of Queensland University for 4 years to follow her passion for animals and studied Bachelor of Applied Science (Animal Studies) (Hons) and became a qualified Wildlife Biologist. Struggling to find a job in a niche industry, she took a position at her father's brokerage business in 2007 to assist in administration and basic insurance tasks. The role was supposed to be temporary, but Kirsty quickly developed a strong desire to learn more and increase her skills. She completed her insurance studies through NIBA College and was awarded Student of the Month in January 2015 for her work when completing her Diploma of Financial Services (Broking). 

Despite her family connections, Kirsty commenced her insurance career at the bottom and worked her way up through the ranks of the family business. She has held positions of Account Executive Assistant, Senior Account Executive Assistant, Compliance Officer, Administration Manager and has recently become a Director in the business. Kirsty has developed skills and has knowledge in all facets of insurance broking ranging from data processing, claims handling, customer service, account management, administration, marketing, compliance, HR, accounts, management, and strategic direction.  She has excellent technical knowledge on insurance products and insurance principles in general.

Kirsty has participated in QBE's eQuip program in 2013, the NIBA Mentoring Program in 2015 and her insurance knowledge and outstanding contributions to the organisation led her to win the 2021 CQIB Peter McCarthy Memorial Award for Young Insurance Professional of the Year. In 2021, Kirsty was asked to be a mentor in the inaugural CQIB Future Leaders Program, a program which she was instrumental in designing, writing, and rolling out as part of the CQIB Young Professional Committee, which she has been a Member since January 2015. 

Kirsty now leads a highly motivated and high performing team at Stellar Insurance Brokers, but her thirst for knowledge and her overwhelming desire to operate outside her comfort zone guarantees she is destined to break new ground as a female leader in the Industry
