AA Pet Insurance has confirmed the continuation of its sponsorship partnership with the New Zealand Epilepsy Assist Dog Trust (NZEADT) in 2024.

The partnership involves the pet insurer providing donations to sponsor the insurance premiums for eligible NZEADT dogs for the next 12-month period. Any remaining funds will be allocated to support the NZEADT in their mission to help individuals living with severe epilepsy attain independence through trained assistance dogs.

Established in 2007, the NZEADT is a charitable organisation committed to providing independence and security to individuals in New Zealand living with severe epilepsy. Andrea Hawkless, the founder of NZEADT, initiated this cause after her son's epilepsy showed limited improvement despite medications and brain surgery. With no such organisation existing in New Zealand at the time, Andrea formed NZEADT to enhance the lives of people living with severe epilepsy.

“It is incredibly rewarding for AA Pet Insurance to provide NZEADT service dogs with insurance protection against sickness or injury, knowing that it also gives their owners some comfort and peace of mind if anything were to happen. We are so happy we can continue the partnership and sponsorship model with NZEADT. With every customer who takes out a policy, a contribution is made to this life-changing trust, which gives people with epilepsy more independence and freedom,” said Jenni Ryan, AA chief marketing officer.

“We are delighted to be continuing the partnership with AA Pet Insurance. Vet expenses can be an unexpected cost at any stage of life for a service dog so knowing that our insured dogs are covered will be very reassuring for our financial planning,” said Jan McEwan, NZEADT board member.
