AIG New Zealand has appointed Darrin Madgwick as head of client and broker engagement, New Zealand, chief executive Liam Pomfret announced on LinkedIn.

Madgwick has more than 30 years of insurance experience across New Zealand and Australia, spanning broking, underwriting, claims, business ownership and executive leadership. His LinkedIn profile lists his most recent role as head of insurance, ANZ, at UBT Protect.

“His deep market relationships and strong client and broker focus will help us continue to strengthen our partnerships and support sustainable growth in New Zealand,” Pomfret said.

Pomfret also came to the role from the broking side. He held roles at Aon New Zealand and Marsh New Zealand before joining AIG as Asia-Pacific head of professional liability and cyber, and has led the New Zealand business as chief executive and general manager since January 2024.

For brokers placing business with AIG in New Zealand, Madgwick becomes the insurer’s dedicated senior contact for the broker relationship. His background across broking, underwriting and claims means he has worked on both sides of a placement.

Separately, Allianz Commercial named Stephen Morton, AIG’s global chief underwriting officer for fronting and multinational business, as its new global head of captive fronting and captive solutions in September, effective March 1, 2027.
