Nominations for the 2020 Women in Insurance Awards are open, and one major category is the Employer of the Year Award, which recognises the insurers who have made their company an outstanding place to work for their staff.

The award for 2019 was taken by Zurich, which says it is “extremely proud” of the way its culture has developed, and of its corporate social responsibility activities in New Zealand over the past 12 months.

“I am extremely proud of our team at Zurich NZ,” Brett Wainhouse, regional manager - New Zealand general insurance said. “We have some great people, and most importantly, a very strong culture.”

“We were named ‘Employer of the Year’ at the Women in Insurance Awards and one of New Zealand’s Top Insurance Workplaces by Insurance Business,” he continued.

“Both were great achievements for us in 2019, and this was further reinforced by being named being named as a finalist at the ANZIIF awards for ‘Excellence in Workplace Diversity and Inclusion’.”

Wainhouse also noted that several of Zurich’s team received individual recognition as rising stars and young insurance professionals, and highlighted the team’s charitable activities globally and within New Zealand.

“We won the ‘Variety International Award’ in Canada, which recognised outstanding corporate philanthropy and our ongoing support of Variety since 2013,” Wainhouse said.

“In 2019 we were instrumental in driving a transformational grant in excess of $750,000 from the Z Zurich Foundation, which enabled the charity to significantly scale up its operations and help thousands of vulnerable and disadvantaged Kiwi kids have the childhood that they deserve.”

“I think it is fantastic that we work in an organisation that values giving back to the communities that it lives and works in,” Wainhouse concluded.

“Our entire team in New Zealand is truly engaged in our efforts with Variety – we had a 100% uptake for our staff volunteer day program, which is a first for Zurich globally.”
