Gallagher Bassett New Zealand has been named as the Employer of Choice (1-200 employees) in the inaugural New Zealand HR Awards, and GB New Zealand managing director Craig Furness says the company is “thrilled” to be recognised for its people, culture and working environment.

The inaugural Human Resources Director (HRD) award recognises organisations which develop leading HR practices and policies, and measures its nominees against various key metrics. These included remuneration, rewards and recognition, career development opportunities, diversity and inclusion, and others.

Gallagher Bassett was listed as one of the Insurance Business New Zealand 2020 Top Employers, and national people and culture manager Gabrielle Cook (pictured) says the ongoing recognition demonstrates the strength of the company’s people and culture team.

“GB places immense importance on creating a culture that is inclusive, diverse, collaborative and passionate,” Cook commented.

“Our submission not only showcases great frameworks that we use in our HR space but the importance of attracting, developing and rewarding the right people into our roles.  At Gallagher Bassett New Zealand, our teams are full of the right people who embrace what they do and how they do it for demonstrably superior outcomes for our clients, our teams and each other.”

Cook says the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for the HR department of every organisation, and highlighted GB’s employee survey results, which showed that colleagues felt supported by each other throughout the difficult and uncertain time.

“We are extremely proud of the way our people are dynamic in response to adversity – COVID being a great example,” Cook said.

“In order to support our clients during this time, we also had to be confident that our people were supported in a changing environment. Surveys showed our people felt truly supported and their number one mechanism for support was each other.”

Suncorp New Zealand and AA New Zealand were also recognised as ‘Excellence Awardees’ in the Employer of Choice (>200 staff) category.
