Insurance company nib has announced it has entered into a partnership with New Zealand travel insurer Uni-Care.

Under the alliance, nib will become Uni-Care’s underwriting partner for international student products while Uni-Care will manage all claims, sales and product distribution. Additionally, nib will also manage Uni-Care’s emergency assistance function through its travel insurance business. This means students will continue to have cover when travelling between their country of origin, plus for short visits to Australia, some Pacific Islands, Bali and Lombok.

The partnership will further expand nib’s capabilities in the ever-growing international visitors market, nib chief executive officer Rob Hennin said.

“We’re seeing more and more people travel to New Zealand, whether it’s for study, work or leisure,” Henning said. “This represents a fantastic opportunity for us to grow our business by tapping into the international students and workers travel insurance market, which complements our core health insurance business.”

“We’ve been searching for the right opportunity for some time and believe this partnership is a great fit,” he added.

Meanwhile, John Chandler of Uni-Care expects the new alliance will strengthen Uni-Care’s offering in the international travel market as well as add value to its customers.
