State-owned workplace insurer Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is investing a further $1.7 million over the next three years to support services aimed at family violence intervention.

According to Minister for ACC Iain Lees-Galloway, the funding boost will support the expansion of the Gandhi Nivas service in Waitemata. Gandhi Nivas is an early intervention service that provides emergency accommodation and counselling for perpetrators of family violence. It also provides services and referrals that help keep women and children safe.

In December 2016, ACC invested $1.32 million in the service.

“The service deserves further investment, so I’m pleased ACC is providing further investment to enable expansion of services,” Lee-Galloway added. “This reflects on and rewards the success of the programme so far.”
