The New Zealand Insurance Law Association (NZILA) has confirmed its 2025 Insurance Law Conference will be held from Oct. 8 to 10 at the Rydges Lakeland Resort in Queenstown.

Themed “Expect the Unexpected”, the event will explore evolving challenges and opportunities in the insurance and legal sectors.

2025 Insurance Law Conference topics

Maree Cowan, the conference convenor, said the event will focus on addressing uncertainty within the industry. Key sessions will include case studies, panel discussions, and presentations examining emerging risks and the implications of regulatory changes.

“Through thought-provoking discussions, case studies, and expert panels, we’ll explore innovative approaches to addressing uncertainty and preparing for the future. Queenstown’s awe-inspiring environment offers the perfect backdrop for connecting with peers, exchanging ideas, and equipping yourself with the tools to adapt and thrive in the face of the unexpected,” she said.

Event highlights

The conference schedule includes several networking opportunities. A welcome reception will take place on Oct. 8, followed by a conference dinner on Oct. 9, and a “Long Lunch” on Oct. 10. Attendees can earn up to nine Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for their participation.

Registration fees begin at $925 for early bird sign-ups available until Aug. 1, 2025. After this date, registration costs will increase by $70. The fee covers access to all sessions, catering, and a one-year NZILA membership valid through July 2026.

Practical details

The dress code for the conference is business attire for sessions and semi-formal or cocktail wear for the dinner. Delegates will need to arrange their own transport to the venue, with the exception of bus service provided for the conference dinner.

Refunds for registration and accommodation will be available under specific conditions. Registrations may be transferred to another person, and cancellations received by Sep. 21, 2025, will be refunded minus a $100 administration fee. Accommodation costs are non-refundable after Aug. 1, 2025.

Additional updates about the program will be announced closer to the event.
