Former Munich Re Syndicate group head of financial lines Nick Kirk has been appointed as senior financial institutions (FI) underwriter for Casper Specialty UK Limited, a managing general agent (MGA) specializing in casualty insurance.

Kirk’s addition is a strategic move by Casper as it aims to strengthen its team and expand its operations in its first year.

As per his LinkedIn, Kirk brings a rich background in insurance underwriting to Casper. Before his tenure at Munich Re Syndicate, Kirk’s career in the insurance sector was extensive, including over 20 years at Canopius, where he served as head of casualty & FinPro. His industry involvement is marked by leadership roles such as chairman and deputy chairman of the IUA Bankers Underwriting Group, along with being a longstanding member of the FI LMA panel.

Casper, which commenced operations at the start of 2023, stands as an independent entity affiliated with Miller, a prominent independent specialist re/insurance broker. The MGA also enjoys capacity support from Argenta, bolstering its market capabilities.

“As a newly formed MGA, Casper has significant growth aspirations, and I am excited by the opportunity to be part of an independent underwriting business. Having already expanded its capacity and moved into Europe, I look forward to joining an entrepreneurial team and supporting the business in empowering some of the most talented underwriters in the market,” Kirk said.

“I am delighted to be welcoming Nick to Casper. Nick is a recognized lead underwriter and his deep experience in Financial Institutions and the wider casualty arena will be a great asset to the team. His reputation for technical excellence, diligence and integrity has built him a dedicated broker following and a strong portfolio of businesses. The casualty market today is being impacted by a number of dynamics, and Casper’s objective is to enable carriers to access attractive opportunities through market-leading underwriters such as Nick,” Casper CEO Bradley Knight said.
