Fortitude Re has announced the appointment of Carla Albertze (pictured above) as senior vice president (SVP), head of internal audit.

In her new role, Albertze will lead Fortitude Re’s internal audit team to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the company’s internal controls, risk management processes, and governance procedures.

Albertze brings extensive experience to the position, having previously served as vice president, internal audit. Her responsibilities included performing audits in areas such as deal pricing, model risk management, system implementations, data migrations, and enterprise risk management.

She joined Fortitude Re from KPMG, where she conducted external audits of SEC registrants and worked with clients in the reinsurance industry.

Albertze is a Certified Chartered Accountant and a member of both the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Chartered Professional Accountants of Bermuda.

Richard Patching, chairperson of Fortitude Re’s board of directors audit committee, highlighted Albertze’s expertise that she brings into this higher role.

“Throughout Carla’s career, she has demonstrated a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, industry best practices and emerging risks, which has positioned her as a trusted leader in industry. Her expertise, coupled with her proven track record of driving efficiency, transparency and accountability will be instrumental to Fortitude Re’s continued success,” Patching said.

“I am grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to supporting Fortitude Re in achieving its objectives and further strengthening our strong culture of corporate governance and rigorous internal controls,” Albertze said.

In other recent developments, Fortitude Re announced the promotion of Jamie Schmerer to the position of senior vice president, enterprise risk, back in April.

In this new role, Schmerer’s responsibilities will extend to leading the company’s regulatory relations in Bermuda and supervising the operational risk function to ensure its effective integration.
