Declan Durkan, who left Gallagher in January after 12 years with the firm, has been appointed as commercial and placement director at THB UK Risk Solutions.

In his new role effective January 02, 2018, the three-decade industry veteran – who worked at Marsh and JLT prior to joining Gallagher – will assist in growing THB’s combined fleet and commercial operation in the UK. At Gallagher, Durkan was managing director, national broking and placement, for the UK retail unit.

Darren Nightingale, THB UK Risk Solutions chief executive, described the incoming hire as an “exceptionally talented and seasoned” industry professional.

“THB UK Risk Solutions is committed to developing its national broking base, offering partner brokers not only commercial and fleet insurance but solutions in the PI (professional indemnity) and cyber sectors, specialist transportation risks including marine and aviation, and numerous other areas,” said Nightingale.

“Declan and the team will seek to significantly expand our offering and expertise to clients, building upon our existing market-leading capabilities and the strength of THB and AmWINS Group,” he added. “I am very pleased to welcome him to THB and the wider AmWINS family.”

The London-headquartered specialist insurance and reinsurance broker employs more than 700 people around the world. THB UK is made up of THB Risk Solutions, specialist underwriting agency Unicorn, and risk management solutions business Cardinus. THB International, on the other hand, has offices in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
