Arch Insurance International has announced leadership changes in its offshore energy division, effective immediately.

Elizabeth Thompson (pictured above) has been promoted to offshore energy underwriting manager, while James Brown has been appointed as a senior energy advisor. Both will be based in London and report to Jake Gibbs, head of marine and energy.

Thompson will oversee underwriting activities for Arch's London Market offshore energy portfolio, which provides global coverage for both conventional and renewable energy sectors. She joined Arch in 2019 from Chaucer and most recently served as a senior offshore energy underwriter.

Brown will work with the underwriting team to assess risks in both conventional and emerging energy markets. His role also includes supporting the development of solutions across the broader energy portfolio to help clients manage the transition to renewable energy sources.

Brown brings over 30 years of experience to the position, having previously held roles including head of natural resources at Chaucer and, most recently, working as a consultant with Kita.

Gibbs commented on the new appointments, saying that the appointments reflect their expertise and respect within the market.

“Elizabeth’s promotion is very well deserved. She is an outstanding underwriter and highly respected by both brokers and peers in the market. In her new role, she will be integral to driving our growth as we continue to enhance our relevance and service offering to our brokers in this rapidly evolving sector,” Gibbs said.

“We’re also very excited to have James join the team. His depth of technical expertise, experience and market insight will be extremely valuable as we look to bolster our value proposition and provide even greater support to our clients.” Gibbs said.

Earlier this month, the insurer also announced key promotions within its casualty division, with Robin Hamilton named head of energy and marine liability and Tony Flatman, to continue managing the underwriting and portfolio oversight for the marine liability sector.
