Barbican Insurance Group has bolstered its cyber operations with the appointment of two senior executives from industry powerhouse Allianz.

The insurer has named Graeme King as business group leader for cyber while Richard Spotswood has been hired as underwriting manager for cyber. Both recruits will join Barbican’s Syndicate 1955.

“With the appointment of Graeme to head-up our cyber operations and Richard as underwriting manager, we have a formidable team that is more than capable of further strengthening our position in this increasingly competitive sector,” said Iain Bremner, managing director of Barbican Managing Agency Limited.

Before that, King was a senior technology and cyber underwriter at XL in London. He also held roles at Hiscox and Zurich during his 13-year career.

Spotswood was previously a senior tech PI and cyber underwriter at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, focusing on the group’s technology errors and omissions and cyber liability portfolio. He also worked at Principia Underwriting and Willis, where he became divisional director within the firm’s financial lines and technology, media and telecommunications practice.
