Brightside Insurance CEO Andy Wallin has left the company to join Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford (CGSC), the global reinsurance, wholesale and specialty broker.

CGSC has appointed Wallin as group commercial director, effective immediately. He is bringing to his new role over 10 years of senior management experience, merger and acquisitions expertise and growth strategy development and execution.

Group CEO Steve Hearn said Wallin’s experience and drive will be a key part of the business and that his appointment represents a “significant step forward.”

“We have a strong foundation but we are looking to build something exceptional and to establish ourselves as an altogether different proposition, based on creativity and innovation, which will set us apart from anything in the market today,” Hearn said.

Explaining his decision to move to CGSC, Wallin said he cannot lose the opportunity to work for a “pioneering force” in the industry.

“What Steve and his team are building is highly ambitious but also timely. Being part of what I am certain will quickly become a pioneering force in this market was impossible to pass up and I am truly looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

Wallin previously served as group CEO of Brightside Insurance Services where he implemented a new broker platform and led the efforts for the company’s de-listing from the London Stock Exchange, all in just less than a year.

Before working at Brightside, Wallin was the managing director and group commercial director at Arthur J. Gallagher International, where he developed and supervised an acquisition strategy. He also led a series of mergers and acquisition deals which boosted a period of growth.

Wallin also served as managing director at Oxygen Insurance, as divisional director at Willis and as corporate finance advisor at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
