Lloyd’s syndicate Carbon Underwriting has appointed Claire Turner as a property underwriter, the latest in a series of new hires for the independent managing general underwriter (MGU).

Turner previously worked in Chubb for over 25 years, most recently underwriting international property binders. At Carbon, she will focus on helping to expand its property book of business and new business development.

“The quality of our business is testament to the quality of our people, and it is always a pleasure when we attract talent of the calibre of Claire, who brings over two decades of highly relevant experience to our underwriting team,” said Carbon CEO Nick Tye.

Turner’s appointment supports Carbon’s ongoing efforts to transform the international coverholder market with new talent and technology centred around its insurtech ecosystem, Graphene.

“I have been hugely impressed with the impact that Carbon has achieved to date and was attracted to join them by the inclusive and collaborative culture emanating from the forward-thinking and highly energised individuals across the team,” Turner said. “The company is a breath of fresh air and I am relishing the value and benefits that our data-driven underwriting approach brings to all parties involved.”
