Former US senator John E. Sununu, who actively prioritised insurance issues during his tenure, is joining the Council of Lloyd’s on February 06.

“His appointment to the Council ensures that Lloyd’s has outstanding US political and regulatory experience to draw from, which is essential for the significant amount of business Lloyd’s does in the US,” announced Lloyd’s of London.

“John’s experience and ongoing interest in technology and innovation will also help Lloyd’s seize new opportunities in the digital world.”

Currently Sununu acts as a senior policy advisor for Washington-headquartered international law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. He also holds office as a non-executive director for Boston Scientific Corporation and Afiniti, Inc.

Lloyd’s said 50% of its global premiums originate in the US and Canada.
