Martin Senn, former chief executive of Zurich Insurance, has passed away at 59 years old, according to the company. The cause of death cited was suicide.

“Martin Senn’s family has informed us that Martin committed suicide last Friday,” the company said. “We are profoundly shocked by the news of the sudden death.”

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, Senn was found in his holiday home in Klosters, Switzerland.

Senn stepped down from Zurich in late 2015, following a failed takeover of UK insurer RSA, citing heavy losses sustained from the huge port explosion in Tianjin, China.
