Five senior appointments span marketing, claims, commercial leadership, regulatory panels and marine mutual this week, with the most analytically significant moves at Hiscox and Clear Group signalling deliberate strategic investment rather than routine succession.

Hiscox appoints group chief marketing and revenue officer

Hiscox has appointed Aparna Sarin (pictured, left) as group chief marketing and revenue officer, a newly created role on the group executive committee. The appointment is notable for two reasons: it creates a senior position that explicitly connects marketing to revenue at the most senior level, and it fills that position with someone from consumer financial services rather than insurance - Sarin joins from Capital One, where she was chief marketing officer for business cards and payments, having previously held senior roles at American Express across credit, customer management and international portfolios.

That background gives the appointment its strategic logic. Hiscox has identified inconsistency in how it connects specialist propositions to distribution channels and customers across markets as a problem worth solving at group executive level. Consumer financial services experience in customer acquisition, marketing effectiveness and growth strategy at scale is a different skill set from insurance marketing, and the choice to recruit externally from that sector rather than promoting from within signals the specific gap Hiscox is trying to close.

"I look forward to working with colleagues across the Group to understand where we have the strongest opportunities, build on existing strengths and help create even greater consistency and impact across the business," Sarin said.

Liberty promotes Sarah Howell to head of claims, UK & MENA

Liberty Specialty Markets has appointed Sarah Howell (pictured, centre) as head of claims, UK & MENA, effective July 1, 2026. Howell brings more than 11 years of experience at Liberty across two periods of service, most recently as head of first party claims. She succeeds Scott Kellers, who left the business in April 2026, and will report to both Mike Gillett, chief claims officer for Liberty International Insurance, and Luis Prato, president of UK & MENA - a dual reporting line that reflects cross-functional accountability between the global claims function and the regional business. She joins the UK & MENA executive leadership team and the global claims executive.

FCA confirms panel chair appointments

The FCA has confirmed Kirsty Cooper (pictured, right) as chair of the Listing Authority Advisory Panel from July 1, with Clare Woodman and Matt Hammerstein reappointed as chairs of the Markets Practitioner Panel and Practitioner Panel respectively from August 1. The LAAP appointment arrives as the FCA's UK Listing Reform programme continues to reshape the regulatory framework for public markets, giving Cooper's role immediate and specific significance beyond routine panel governance.

FCA chair Ashley Alder said: "I am pleased to welcome Kirsty to the role of Chair of the LAAP at a time of profound change across markets."

Clear Group appoints group chief commercial officer and UK retail CEO

Clear Group has announced two senior leadership appointments effective September 2026 - a simultaneous CCO and retail CEO hire that signals a deliberate strategic pivot rather than routine succession planning.

Phil Williams becomes group chief commercial officer, leading Clear's commercial agenda across the group with a focus on growth opportunities and stronger client propositions. Williams joins from within the broking market, though Clear has not disclosed his current role publicly.

Matthew Alcott joins as UK retail CEO from Aon, where he was UK chief commercial officer - an external hire from one of the market's largest brokers into the retail leadership role that shapes how Clear competes for mid-market and SME business. Alcott began his career as a risk engineer before moving into senior leadership, including UK sales director at Oval and roles at AXA, Allianz and Marsh. Recruiting externally from Aon's commercial leadership for the UK retail CEO position, while simultaneously appointing a group CCO, suggests Clear is building out commercial infrastructure across both the group and UK retail tiers at the same time rather than sequentially.

TT Club names commercial director

TT Club has appointed Oscar Egerström to the newly created global role of commercial director, reporting to underwriting director Andrew Peers. Egerström brings more than 20 years of experience in maritime legal, shipping and marine insurance, including 13 years at TT Club, most recently underwriting UK & Ireland, Benelux, Nordics and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The internal promotion into a newly created global commercial role reflects a marine mutual investing in member and broker proximity as a strategic priority rather than simply a service standard.

Peers said: "Oscar's appointment reflects the importance we place on being close to our Members, brokers and the wider transport industry."
