Tokio Marine HCC has promoted Mark Hutton to lead its global crisis management business, covering kidnap and ransom, product recall and active assailant, while Control Risks has appointed Chris Holt, who founded a specialist Lloyd's broker, to run its advisory and risk consulting practice.

Tokio Marine HCC puts global crisis management under one head

Tokio Marine HCC - Specialty Group has promoted Mark Hutton to chief underwriting officer and global head of crisis management, with immediate effect. He continues to report to Philip Hall, managing director of Specialty Group, and takes over leadership of the global business from Sean Curtin, who is president of Specialty Group.

Hutton is responsible for kidnap and ransom, product recall, active assailant and related lines, with a remit covering strategy, operations, underwriting and financial performance across the US, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.

He joined in May 2024 as head of crisis management, international, to launch the product recall offering in London, after serving as global product head for product recall at AXA XL and head of casualty at McLarens Young International. Curtin said Hutton "established our international Product Recall business from the ground up", and Hutton said he will keep building "from our existing centres of excellence in the US and Europe". For brokers placing these lines, strategy, underwriting and financial performance for crisis management now sit under one global head.

Control Risks hires a former Lloyd's broker founder to lead advisory

Control Risks has appointed Chris Holt MBE (pictured) as global head of advisory and risk consulting, leading an international team that helps organisations prepare for, respond to and recover from critical events. Holt has advised multinational organisations, governments and insurers on crisis management, resilience, security and organisational risk for two decades, after a first career as a British Army officer.

The announcement says he founded and led a specialist Lloyd's of London broker and advisory firm without naming it; Holt founded the malicious risk specialist CHC Global. Control Risks describes the practice as a single point of contact for security consulting, crisis advisory and business resilience programmes. Holt said he is joining "when the threats and risks faced by our clients are increasingly complex". The announcement does not describe any insurance products or broker-facing changes.
