Major insurer Legal & General has added senior insurance executive Philip Broadley to the company board, which will also see the departure of one its members.

Broadley has been appointed as an independent non-executive director, a move that is part of a planned succession process.

He will also chair the audit committee after a short handover period, taking over from Julia Wilson, who became a senior independent director in May.

Broadley has been in the insurance industry for more than 14 years. He has held senior roles including group finance director at Old Mutual and Prudential.

He currently serves as a member of various committees at Oxford University, including the audit, scrutiny and finance panels.

"Philip will be a valuable addition to the Board, given his extensive insurance, financial and City experience from his time with Old Mutual and Prudential,” said Rudy Markham, Legal & General’s interim chairman.

The insurance giant has also announced that Liz Zlatkus will step down from the company board on August 31.

Markham said Zlatkus has been a “valuable” member of the board and of the group risk and audit committees.

“I would like to thank her for her wise and insightful contribution to the board,” Markham said.
