Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) is keen to get bigger in the Netherlands in the area of general liability (GL).

As part of its expansion efforts, LSM has tapped Nicole Nijhuis to serve as senior underwriter for GL and lead the enlarged team. Coming onboard in October, she brings 27 years of industry experience from the likes of Delta Lloyd and Mandema & Partners.

To work alongside Nijhuis is Johan Roos, who is moving up to senior status after joining LSM in 2013 as GL underwriter. Also part of the team is underwriter Burak Bilgin, who arrived at the beginning of 2018. Recently appointed contractor Ruud van Nunspeet, meanwhile, will be working closely with Globex International Group as he services multinational GL programmes.

“We have written general liability from our Netherlands office since it opened, primarily for large domestic and mid-size risks,” explained Rob Groenen (pictured), head of Benelux and Nordics. “But around three years ago we identified a clear opportunity to boost our presence in this class.

“Since then, we’ve been developing our plans and are now ready to roll them out with the express aim of doubling the size of our GL book. We also see the potential for selling our GL expertise in the Benelux and Nordic regions, which would be the next step.”

Groenen described the team as “very strong” and ready to accelerate the GL business.
