Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has announced the dual appointments of Dillion Matthews (pictured left) and Chris O’Brien (pictured right) to the multi-buyer trade credit (MBTC) UK and Europe team as senior underwriter and underwriter, respectively.

Matthews and O’Brien will combine business development responsibilities and supporting their superior in growing the MBTC portfolio within the Financial Risk Solutions (FRS) division. LSM’s FRS team sees a broad range of opportunities in the trade credit sector and the hiring of Matthews and O’Brien is a statement of intent for the division’s continued expansion.

Prior to his new role, Matthews worked as a credit risks strategist for EMEA at Stripe, in addition to almost five years at Markel International. According to his LinkedIn, he holds certifications from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and de Baak.

O’Brien previously worked at Atradius as a senior credit risk underwriter for more than 17 years. According to his LinkedIn, he is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and is an accounting and finance graduate from the University of South Wales.

In their new roles, Matthews and O’Brien will report to LSM FRS head of MBTC UK and Europe Jesse van Cleef, who welcomed the two to the division.

“FRS’s trade credit operations in Europe have grown at pace since launch, and we continue to see further opportunities across the European and UK markets. Dillon and Chris are fantastic professionals who will significantly contribute to the growth of the division as we continue our build-out. Trade credit is a strategic growth opportunity for FRS, and we have high ambitions for the team,” van Cleef said.
