Specialist insurance buyer Mactavish has hired Tom White to serve as the company’s newest head of corporate customer solutions.

In the role, White will be responsible for designing and arranging complex insurance programmes for Mactavish’s corporate customer base. According to a company release, his appointment comes as Mactavish continues to grow rapidly - it has added a large number of new corporate clients since last March due to the market reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic.

White has 35 years of senior experience in the insurance industry. Initially working in the pharmaceutical sector, he moved to The Royal in 1986 and Royal Global in 1990. White later joined Zurich, where he served in a number of leadership roles, such as UK head of property and casualty, European head of corporate customer solutions, and global head of distribution.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team and supporting our clients through one of the most challenging markets in memory. Mactavish has established a fantastic reputation for driving change in the industry and raising the bar on client outcomes,” commented White on his appointment.

“Tom brings to bear a wealth of experience in both the broking and underwriting sectors,” said Mactavish managing director Heidi Carslaw. “He has a unique viewpoint that will strengthen the team, adding to our already extensive skillset and helping to provide even more innovative solutions for clients who are facing terrible market conditions at a time of deep economic uncertainty.”

Mactavish CEO Bruce Hepburn noted that the company’s growth over the last two years has come with a growing awareness among policyholders that the traditional broker/insurer model no longer works as it should – made more evident thanks to a hardening market. Compounded with the COVID-19 pandemic, the insurance industry’s reputation has taken quite the hit in recent times, Hepburn added.

“More and more often, we are asked to take over our clients’ entire insurance purchasing arrangements; helping to push down costs and put in place much more reliable cover,” the CEO said. “Our sense of mission - and our role in championing the policyholder - means that we can attract top talent to help spur future growth.”
