The global asset management arm of Canadian insurer Manulife has appointed two financial industry veterans to new distribution roles for its UK and Ireland operations.

Manulife Asset Management has named Martin Powis as head of institutional sales and relationship management. He will oversee the development of relationships with corporate and public pension funds, while also working closely with the global consultant relations team.

The company has also appointed Alan Burnett as head of wholesale sales and relationship management. He will help build relationships with leading fund provider platforms and fund selectors at banks, wealth managers and family offices across the UK.

The two executives will be reporting to global head of distribution Claude Chene.

"We look forward to their leadership as we build out our team with further appointments in the near future,” Chene said.

With nearly 20 years of experience in fund management distribution, Powis boasts a formidable track record in the UK pensions and insurance sectors.

Powis most recently worked at AXA Investment Management as director of UK Institutional Sales, covering corporate pension plans and third party insurance relationships. He also previously held senior roles at DB Advisors, Ignis Asset Management and Gartmore Investment.

Burnett has over 25 years of experience of setting up UK wholesale businesses. Before joining Manulife, he worked at Lyxor, where he was building their alternatives and absolute return multi asset business in the UK wholesale market.

He also served at Martin Currie Investment Management as head of UK Wholesale, and held senior sales roles at Liontrust Asset Management, AXA Asset Management and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Unit Trust Management.
