Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Johan Haggo as senior underwriter in its personal accident, contingency and entertainment (PACE) team.

Focusing on developing personal accident business, Haggo will work with Markel’s PACE team managing director James Leach.

Haggo is expected to broaden and deepen Markel’s broker relationships, while both consolidating and developing its established personal accident business.

“Johan’s appointment completes the resourcing of our PACE team and, with his help on the personal accident business, we look forward to developing the team’s business across its areas of expertise,” Leach said of the latest hire.

Haggo has nearly 20 years of experience in the Lloyd’s and London company market across both underwriting and broking.

Before joining Markel, he served as divisional director of C J Coleman & Co., where he was responsible for a range of business lines, focusing on accident and health.

His appointment is the fourth newest addition to Markel’s PACE team, following the recruitment of Alex Clegg, Pippa Morris, and Anna Beaman.
