The Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA) has today revealed its appointment of Tim Richards (pictured) to the newly created role of technical services manager as part of its wider growth and development strategy.

Richards will report directly to chief executive Mike Keating and support the association’s plans to extend its market influence by growing its membership, leading technical content and events, and proactively engaging with governing and industry bodies.

Richards, who holds a Dip CII, has over 25 years of insurance market experience and joins from Towergate Insurance Brokers where he served as a caring professions underwriter. Prior to his role at Towergate, he held a variety of insurance positions including as a high net worth underwriter at MS Amlin, as well as roles with Canopius Managing Agents, Equity Red Star, Willis and Marsh.

Commenting on Richards’ appointment, Keating noted that the MGAA sector is growing rapidly in both size and importance to UK plc, writing over £6 billion in GWP a year and providing essential cover.

“Richards’ appointment is directly related to membership feedback from our last comprehensive survey and compliments our three-year vision to have the MGAA recognised as the Third Force within the UK general insurance market,” Keating said. “He will play a pivotal role in developing relevant technical content for the benefit of all MGA community stakeholders.”
