PartnerRe chief executive Emmanuel Clarke has a special task starting this year, on top of his role of being responsible for the firm’s strategic direction and management.

Following the retirement of Tad Walker, who served as CEO of PartnerRe’s property & casualty (P&C) business, a couple of changes at the global reinsurer have been announced. Among them is Clarke taking charge of specialty lines.

The company president is replacing former specialty lines chief executive Charles Goldie, who has been appointed as Walker’s successor in the P&C unit. Meanwhile Clarke will be assisted by Greg Haft, who has been named as specialty lines deputy CEO effective January 01.

In addition, Haft will also lead the newly formed specialty property, marine, and energy unit. He came onboard in 2013 and served as head of global catastrophe and property, North America.

“I would like to thank Tad for his important contribution to PartnerRe over the years,” commented Clarke. “He has been a valued member of the executive management team, and we are grateful to him for his work in helping to position PartnerRe’s future success.”

Goldie’s appointment takes effect on January 15 and will see him relocating from Zurich to the US. He managed the specialty lines business from 2010, after leading the US portfolio from when he joined PartnerRe in 2002.

“As an established leader at PartnerRe, Charlie brings experience and stability for our clients and brokers in P&C who will continue to receive the same quality service from PartnerRe,” commented Clarke. “Charlie’s success in building client relationships and delivering reinsurance solutions across a wide spectrum of markets will translate well to our P&C business.

“At the same time, I would like to congratulate Greg on his promotion to deputy CEO specialty lines. His long and successful track record in property catastrophe coupled with his leadership skills made him an excellent choice for this positon, and I look forward to his support.”
