StarStone has launched its crisis management division after snapping up underwriters from Antares Managing Agency and ArgoGlobal.

A strengthening of the global specialty insurer’s existing war & terrorism offering, the new division will provide war & terrorism (re)insurance as well as credit & political risks insurance. Named as head of war & terrorism is James Hannan, who joins from Antares Managing Agency.

Hannan served as deputy class underwriter, terrorism, for Travelers Syndicate 5000 before moving to Antares Managing Agency where he held the position of class underwriter, terrorism & political violence, for six years. Also from Antares Managing Agency, former deputy terrorism underwriter Amy Henry is now war & terrorism underwriter at StarStone.

Meanwhile Andrew Summers (pictured), who was a credit & political risks underwriter at ArgoGlobal, has been appointed as senior political risk underwriter. He also served as a political risk underwriter at AIG Europe.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the launch of our new crisis management division, which builds on the established strengths of our war & terrorism team, and to welcome James, Andy, and Amy,” said StarStone group chief executive Demian Smith. “Added to our existing team, they collectively form a considerable capability that will be a significant asset in StarStone’s continued success and development.”

The team is under the leadership of Simon Low, who came onboard last July as group head of political risks & crisis management.
