Swinton Insurance is implementing a rationalisation move that will see the closure of its branch in Burnham-On-Sea.

The broker will shut down its Burnham office this week and will move into its bigger branch in Weston, community news website Burnham-On-Sea reported.

According to the report, a spokesman said the office closure will not affect policies and will not result in job losses.

“The Burnham branch is very busy with very little room, so we are moving into bigger premises to cover the whole area,” the spokesman was quoted as saying in the report.

Last March, the broker revealed that it will close 130 of its 325 branches across the UK by mid-2017, according to a report by This is Money.

The report said the closures will lead to job losses, with branch manager roles being the most at risk.

The insurance retailer has not disclosed the location of the closures and the exact number of jobs to be axed. However, it confirmed plans to “redeploy the majority” of the affected staff, This is Money reported.

Swinton said various factors such as declining footfall and “changing requirements of customers” caused the branch closures, the report added.
