Brit Insurance chair Richard Ward, who served as chief executive at Lloyd's of London from 2006 to 2013, is taking up a new role about three months from now.

Announcing Ward’s appointment, The Ardonagh Group said the Prudential Regulation Authority practitioner panel member will be joining the insurance broker on September 10 as executive chair of the specialty & international and MGA (managing general agent) segments. The insurance executive, who is also part of the Direct Line Group board, will be stepping down from Brit before then.

Ardonagh’s specialty & international segment consists of Bishopsgate and Price Forbes, while the MGA segment spans across the broking group’s MGA activities.

“If anything was to validate the momentum behind The Ardonagh Group, the arrival of Richard is in itself another milestone for our organisation,” noted Ardonagh chief executive David Ross. “I have worked with Richard in many guises over the past decade and to be able to now call him a colleague is a great moment for us all. The perfect cultural fit, Richard will become an integral part of a cohesive, highly skilled executive team.

“His presence across the MGA and specialty & international segments can only add substantially to our ability to both create and capitalise on future growth opportunities. Under his leadership, one can only feel genuinely excited by what’s to come.”

Ward, for his part, said he is “very much looking forward” to what he described as a “captivating” opportunity, adding that the group’s high-profile and diverse portfolio continues to generate global interest nearly twelve months after it was formed.

“The board and all the shareholders are delighted to welcome him to the team,” commented Ardonagh chair John Tiner, who cited Ward’s “exceptional pedigree and unrivalled expertise” and said his career speaks for itself.
