Wentworth Alexander Insurance Brokers has renewed its partnership with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, continuing a long-standing association between the Northampton-based independent commercial broker and its local county side. Under the renewed deal, WAIB will be hosted in the Hevey Suite throughout the 2026 season and will retain branding around the cinch County Ground perimeter.
The renewal is a small but pointed example of how independent regional brokers are using sustained local sponsorships to differentiate themselves from the PE-backed consolidators and global broking groups that have dominated UK broker M&A activity in recent years. Private equity-backed buyers have driven the bulk of broker acquisitions across the UK and Europe, with valuations generally trending higher for agencies sold to external consolidators than for those transferred through internal succession. Against that backdrop, a decade-long visible presence at a county ground - the kind of community rootedness that a nationally scaled consolidator cannot authentically replicate - is an increasingly deliberate positioning choice rather than simply a marketing expense.
IFS Risk Solutions, the South Yorkshire broker, has built a comparable model with Club Doncaster, reaffirming a sponsorship and insurance partnership spanning more than a decade across both rugby league and football. Both examples point to the same logic: local presence, sustained over time, as a differentiator that scale alone cannot buy.
WAIB's renewal fits a broader pattern of insurers and brokers expanding their presence across UK sport. Within cricket, C&C Insurance Brokers has sponsored Yorkshire County Cricket Club since 2021 and extended its shirt sponsorship with Lancashire Cricket by three years, while Acrisure - through Nottingham-based broker Russell Scanlan - struck a naming rights and shirt sponsorship deal with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. Beyond cricket, Howden became Principal Partner and front-of-jersey sponsor of The British and Irish Lions in 2023 under a four-year deal, a partnership since expanded to cover the first Lions Women's Tour, scheduled for New Zealand in 2027.
