GRP’s County Group is continuing to ramp up its deal flow in 2022, and has today announced its acquisition of the business and assets of Marsh & Co (Marsh) and Ginger Markets (an MGA set up by Marsh).

The acquisition completes with immediate effect and the consideration is undisclosed. County Group’s latest deal follows its acquisition earlier in the year of two Welsh-based businesses - PG Insurance (in March) and Archenfield (in April).

Marsh, a Leicester-based business with a branch office in Weston-super-Mare, was founded in 1995 by Rob and Alan Marsh. The broking business has a sizeable book of commercial insurance including leisure and associated personal lines. Meanwhile, its MGA Ginger Markets specialises in marquee and glamping insurance, and was set up by Marsh to provide an in-house facility for brokers.

Commenting on the deal, County Group CEO Alastair Christopherson described the acquired business as a “dynamic family-owned broker with plenty of experience and a hunger to expand.” He noted that Rob Marsh and his team are dedicated community brokers who are now seeking to introduce a new phase in business growth under the umbrella of County Group and GRP.

“These well-run brokerages are hugely valuable assets and it’s great news that they have chosen to put their future with County Group,” Christopherson said. “We have enjoyed a fast start to the year, having completed three deals, but we are actively looking for more opportunities and remain keen to talk to vendors seeking to take some value from their life’s work, and/or move to the next stage in their development.”

Rob Marsh also discussed the deal and said when he first entered discussions with Christopherson about becoming part of the wider group, it was clear County’s team would make excellent custodians for the business, its people and its clients.

“We are all very excited about the move across and the opportunities that await us as part of a larger family,” he said, “and all our people are moving across to be part of the new arrangements.”

Marsh added that the business will continue to trade under the Marsh brand from both offices and “the whole team are looking forward to further growing the business with County and GRP.”
