Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda (LSM Bermuda), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance, has announced the appointment of Nicholas Garside to the newly created role of chief underwriting officer. He will report to Steve Horton, president of LSM Bermuda.

Garside (pictured above) previously led LSM Bermuda’s property unit. In his new role, he will provide strategic direction and leadership for the company’s underwriting functions.

“Nick has the ideal blend of leadership and underwriting management experience to thrive in this new role,” Horton said. “Appointing a chief underwriting officer to oversee all of our coverage offerings provides the management oversight needed for us to continue to outperform the market.”

LSM Bermuda also announced several other promotions:

  • Joanna Din was promoted to head of specialty risk
  • Andrew Osborne was promoted to head of Bermuda healthcare
  • Daniel Rance was promoted to head of financial lines

All will serve under Garside, the company said.
